The art program provides an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with different areas of the art world including art history, painting, drawing, and multimedia. The early childhood curriculum incorporates a wide variety of manual arts exercises, materials, and manipulatives into everyday learning experiences. Reading, writing, math, social studies, and science are frequently interwoven with artistic elements and projects in order to build students’ artistic skills and motor skills while enhancing the learning process. While elementary students will also often incorporate art into academic lessons and projects, these students are regularly scheduled to visit the art room for art instruction. At the Preparatory School level, however, art classes become a part of the elective program in which students are allowed to select from a variety of course offerings. At all levels, the faculty encourages students to be creative and thoughtful. Students often uncap hidden artistic talents and find art to be an alternate outlet for expressing themselves. Students in grades one through eight look forward to our annual Art Fair and our annual contributions to the Dade County Youth Fair, for which many students receive awards.
