January 2018 Monthly Meeting Minutes

The RSPC would like to wish you a very Happy New Year! We are excited to embark on the second half of the school year, bringing you lots of great events and activities!

Please take a few minutes to read this month’s Parents Club meeting highlights and some very important upcoming dates!

RSPC January 9, 2018 Meeting Highlights:

Welcome & Icebreaker - Allison Cohen

Prep School - Mr. Snay

Some of our seniors have already received early college acceptances to many prestigious universities, with the bulk of acceptances coming in February and March. On February 7, our World Languages Dept. will be hosting Taste of Nations, a wonderful display of our vast culturally diverse student body that comes together respectfully to share their talent and many foods from all around the world. Rather than college acceptances and test scores, I believe that one of the best ways we show our achievements is by the return of visiting alumni. They become our ambassadors. The students that benefited from our wonderful teachers and great parent support, who are so well prepared who can do nothing but continue to achieve in their respective colleges.

Day School - Dr. Rodriguez

We are happy to be back from winter break, ready for the many events and activities we are preparing for in the next few weeks. This Friday (January 12) is Shed Your Threads. Our Valentine’s Day Sale runs from Jan 31 - Feb 7. Our class photos are January 18. Reports cards will be sent out via email next Tuesday. At the end of the month, we will be meeting to choose among our best 4th and 5th grade students for induction into the National Elementary Honor Society. We are also preparing to add a coding class to our curriculum for students from Pre-K to the 5th grade, which has proven to be extremely beneficial even at such young ages.

Athletic Director - Courtney Young

Athletic Program continues its growth. Students are enthusiastic about adding even more sports to our athletic department. We will be adding Track to our spring season. Baseball will also be commencing in the spring, with both a JV and varsity teams. Soccer is coming to a close with Girls’ Districts next week, this week’s Senior recognition game. The Boys’ Senior game will take place next week. We are looking forward to another amazing spring season. We count on and appreciate your continued support.

Holiday Store - Sonia Baez & Diana Tomassetti

The Holiday Store was as success. It was even more successful than in the past, since it was held on site at the day school, so there was no expense from renting space from the Women’s Club. RSPC’s profits totaled $836.84! We want to extend a special thanks to the volunteers that that dedicated their time to make this event so great: Yvonne Alfonso, Michelle Buendia, Melissa Cruz-Alvarez, Susan Dimond, Vanessa Drumgoole, Yamila Estevez, Nicole Gadala-Maria, Pauline Guzman, Brooke Hoenig, Laura Larrabee, Olga Lastra, Kelly Lawrence, Gaby Loewenstein, Jennifer Magarano, Tatiana Merlo, Alisa Newman, Ruth Roman-Jimenez, Adalis Sanchez-Sarno, and April Stuzin,

Sports Booster - Pauline Guzman

Thanks to all the parents who volunteer and support our teams. With the Athletics Department’s continued growth, our teams are always in need of more volunteers. Please contact the RSPC if you want to be more involved.
