A New Perspective in Bringing Technology to High School

A New Perspective in Bringing Technology to High School

Switching to working from home can be a simple adjustment or a complicated one. At first, it was an interesting change, but soon you established a routine for yourself. For many high schools in Miami and everywhere else, making the jump to online classes was a challenging process for students and teachers. Some teachers may not be as tech-savvy as the others and/or students are not used to going from one class to another without leaving their room. Students were often told to put their digital devices away during class. Now they are using those devices regularly to complete tests and assignments. What this pandemic brought to light for many high school students, teachers, and parents is the importance of regularly incorporating technology into high school classes and how private high schools do it right.

The change from in-person to online

The final bell rang and it is time for students to go home and then return to school the next morning. What the students did not realize is that they may be at home longer than they expected. Shifting from normal in-person education to online is a jump that all schools had to take. The high schools that were able to smoothly adjust are schools that routinely use technology in their everyday curriculum. Teachers and students who are accustomed to using technology in their classrooms are more aware of how to effectively teach and learn subjects through other mediums than just sitting at a desk and taking notes.

Benefits of using tech in the classroom

Systematically applying technology in education has a considerable amount of benefits. There is a stigma that technology can hinder a student's education negatively because it can be a distraction. However, when technology is utilized in a school setting appropriately and responsibly then students can increase their development in their critical thinking and analytical skills. Technology also provides open communication between teachers, parents, and students to allow information to flow from school to home. There are numerous other benefits, but the last one here is unlimited resources that become available for every school subject.

Getting ahead of the curve

High schools that adapted easily to the change in learning methods were successful in their process because they already operate technology in classes. Private high schools knew the power technology can have long before changing to remote learning. These schools are equipped with dedicated computer labs with access to a wide variety of subscription-based resources and provide students with individual tablets to have their digital textbooks and coursework on the go. Private high schools were ready to take on remote learning because they know they prepared their students and teachers for the challenge.
