The Varsity Girls Volleyball Team faced Archbishop McCarthy on Wed. Oct. 8 at Riviera, where they lost in a hard-fought game. The match was full of emotions because it was the final game of the season, and the gym was packed with fans, posters, and cheers for Senior Night. Leading the Bulldogs was libero Camila Busque (12), rightside and outside hitter Emilia Kouri (12), middle blocker Annemarie Perez, middle blocker Mariel St. John (12), and team manager Andrea Prieto (12). The game was intense from the start. Riviera lost in three close sets: 26–24, 28–26, and 25–18, but every point was fought until the end. The Bulldogs pushed hard, especially in the first two sets, nearly pulling off comebacks that had the crowd on their feet. Perez led the team with powerful kills that kept Riviera in the game. Sophomore Hailey Pena was a standout on defense, racking up digs and serving aces. Freshman Maya St. John added key blocks that helped slow down the Mavericks’ offense. Together, they showed heart and hustle all night. Sophomore Tory Young said that the team stayed focused during the game.“When the score was tight, we stayed focused by trusting each other and keeping our communication clear. We reminded ourselves to take it one point at a time and not let the pressure get to us. Staying positive and encouraging each other helped us stay calm and play our best, even in those intense moments,” said Young. This wasn’t just any game; it was Senior Night, when the team’s seniors were recognized and celebrated, playing together for the last time while sharing many emotions. Busque, who is closing this chapter, states how she felt during senior night. “When senior night ended it just felt off, we have been all dreaming about this day and it’s already gone. There were mixed emotions the whole time, but I am happy that this volleyball season ended with the people that I appreciate the most,” said Busque. With this final game, the Bulldogs wrap up their season with a strong record of twelve wins and seven losses. Ranked #11 in Miami on MaxPreps.com, the team proved its strength and unity throughout the season. Every player contributed to the journey, making this year one to remember. Senior Night wasn’t just about the score. It was about celebrating friendships, growth, and the legacies these players leave behind. The underclassmen are ready to carry that spirit forward, and the seniors walk away proud of everything they’ve built.
